Hide and Seek

I’ve mentioned in my previous article that looking for a person who doesn’t want to be found is almost next to impossible. If looking for somebody who isn’t hiding is hard enough, then you’re in for tons of frustrations if the “searchee” is in the mood to play hide and seek.

If you think that person is running away from you, then you might want to withhold such fact or suspicion from the people that you’ll be seeking help from in locating him.

People search can be very difficult. Do not give up on your endeavor though, even if you’re always rewarded with a brick wall for your efforts. Sooner or later he will commit a mistake. He won’t be able to cover his tracks for long and you’ll eventually find a relative or friend who hasn’t been informed that the “searchee” isn’t really ready to come out yet.

People Search Means Asking People

I’ve just realized that I’ve been ranting about how long government databases and the Yellow Pages are for people search purposes that I completely forgot about the most practical way of looking for somebody – asking those who know him.

It is only natural and logical that you should first ask his relatives or friends. They are bound to know his new whereabouts or contact details. If, in the remotest case, they insist that they haven’t seen him for quite some time now, chances are that he doesn’t really want to be found.

Don’t give up too easily though. As they say, no man is an island. That long lost relative or friend of yours will surely let his loved ones know how and where he is. The odds of finding an aunt, cousin, or friend who could help you locate that missing person is big. If you have an inkling that he’s hiding from you, then be very alert and perceptive whenever asking his family or friends. Who knows, they might’ve probably been forewarned already about your possible effort to locate him.

Driving Your Way Through People Search

Do you have that uncanny ability of remembering plate numbers? I do. Nah, I’m just kidding. There are some though that can easily recall plate numbers but can’t remember names! Now that’s weird. I mean, who could remember a bunch of numbers but forget a name? Between plate number 87546 and the name Iosif Vissarionovich Djugashvili, which would you easily remember?

I used to think that people search would be virtually impossible if a one doesn’t know the name of the person he is looking for. But if you do have that unusual ability of remembering plate numbers or retaining a clear mental picture of the color and model of a vehicle, then you might have a field day in searching for somebody through the Department of Motor Vehicle’s database.

Searching through the vehicle agency’s list is easier than going through the phone directory. There may be a hundred Michael Coopers in Orange County, but there is certainly just one 87546 in a particular locality.

People Search – How the Professionals Do It

I’ve always been a “hands-on” type of person. It’s not that I’m a control freak or something. I just like the feeling of getting what I want through my own effort. It’s more gratifying, I tell you, especially if the task is generally done by professionals.

Searching for friends whom I haven’t seen or heard for a long time is one undertaking that I don’t mind busying myself with. With some luck, I could locate somebody in just an hour or two. On bad days however, people search eats up my entire Saturday (the day when I usually rummage through information on the Internet for friends) and sometimes my whole weekend!

Professionals don’t seem to experience my frustrations in people search. That’s not surprising though, since they have access to databases that ordinary people like us do not. For example, they could easily search for people by going through the files collated by the credit bureaus. Only information professionals are granted such right or privilege. It might seem unfair, but the rationale is sound and justified. You wouldn’t want every John and Jane Doe to be able to snoop through your records, would you?

People Search – Sci-Fi Gone "M"ild

Whenever my unforgiving schedule allows me to have a date with my television, I usually make it a point to have a few doses of sci-fi films. Laser guns and flying saucers aren’t that appealing to me though. I mean, common, big discs the size of Los Angeles hovering above the earth? I wouldn’t even buy that even if I have a mental disorder.

What unfailingly gets my interest, however, is the aliens’ usual ability to detect people wherever they may be. They usually do this by implanting a chip on their victim’s wrist.

I’ve always wished that I had that kind of ability. Well, maybe some people do have it now through GPS technology. GPS receivers make it possible for one to locate or be located wherever he or she may be. I’m quite excited as to how far this innovation would be developed. Maybe 10 years from now, people would be rubbing the scars on their wrist instead of biting their tongues whenever somebody remembers them.

Till then, if you want to find somebody... a nice people search will do!

People Search – To Hire or Not to Hire

To hire or not to hire – this is the question that I usually ask myself whenever I consider having somebody traced. Many people have also sought my advice on this. I usually just tell them to do it by themselves considering that there are tons of information on the Internet that make people searches possible. It’s not easy though.

Sure, there are tons of information online that can feed a curious and inquisitive mind. But believe me, and I’m sure you’ll agree, that you’ll be bloating with data on just your first click on Yahoo or Google. By the time you reach the second page, you’ll probably be nauseous already due to information overload.

If you have the time and the patience to go through all the data on the Internet to search for a particular person, then by all means go ahead. However, if you’d rather be spending your free time watching TV or engaging in an outdoor activity, then I strongly suggest that you hire somebody to do the “seemingly” easy task of looking for somebody through online leads.

No Sherlock Holmes Needed!

When I first heard of people search, I thought it was a Sherlock Holmes kind of service. I didn’t even bother inquiring about it since I thought that having an agent follow somebody smacks of an invasion to one’s privacy.

Say for example I’m looking for an old high school crush. You would definitely agree with me that I’ll be winning her goose bumps instead of her heart if I told her that I still remembered her all this time and had somebody follow her.

But people search is not just about hiring an agent to look for and follow somebody. On the contrary, the task is mostly done behind the desk. The procedure is not as invasive as you might think. It just involves rummaging through office and school records.

So don’t be afraid of engaging people search services. It’s not as creepy as some might think. It’s actually just like asking somebody to flip through the yearbook or white pages for you.

People Search – Doing it the Old Fashion Way

There was a time when a people search was considered as dreadful and frustrating. I already had the unfortunate need to look for somebody whom I haven’t talked to for several years already. I didn’t have his phone number, so I resorted to the only available 'search engine' at that time – the Yellow Pages.

The telephone directory was the only accessible people search solution before Yahoo and Google came along. It was a God-send for many, especially for those who already have a lead on the person they are looking for, such as his address. However, if you’re in a state or city where the name Mary Johnson takes up four pages of the directory, then chances are, you’ll be saying sorry a few hundred times before you’re able to talk to the right person.

I’m not saying that searching for somebody through a telephone directory is almost futile. As long as you have an idea as to where that person lives, you can expect your endeavor to be less frustrating.

But then again, you can use your fingers another way... why not conduct an online people search? It requires the same info you need to go through Yellow Pages and the results come up much faster :)
